Imagination is Your Power and their Enemy
We have been convinced that staying informed means giving fear, chaos, outrage, and catastrophe unlimited access to our minds. I’m calling bullshit. Your attention is valuable, your emotional energy is powerful, and your imagination belongs to you. Turn off the news, protect your peace, envision the life you actually want, and start using that extraordinary brain of yours to create instead of react

I am going to say something that will probably make some people roll their eyes, and I am perfectly fine with that. Stop watching the damn news. Stop listening to it in the background. Stop waking up and checking what horrible thing happened while you were sleeping. Stop carrying a tiny breaking-news machine around in your hand and allowing it to interrupt your peace every fifteen minutes. If you believe you need to stay constantly informed about every crisis, conflict, scandal, threat, disaster, prediction, and political circus happening around the world, this article probably is not for you. Sorry, not sorry.
For centuries, human beings have been controlled through information, and fear has always been one hell of an effective tool. Whoever controls the story gets an enormous amount of influence over what people think about, what they expect, what they fear, what they discuss, and eventually, how they behave. Today, that information doesn't arrive by horseback or town crier. It follows you into your bedroom, your bathroom, your dinner table, your car, and your damn pocket. We have somehow accepted the idea that being continuously exposed to the world's chaos makes us responsible, educated citizens. I would argue that constantly marinating your nervous system in catastrophe makes you incredibly easy to influence.
News organizations understand attention. Social media companies understand attention. Politicians understand attention. Advertisers understand attention. Fear gets attention. Anger gets attention. Outrage gets attention. Uncertainty gets attention. Human beings naturally pay attention to possible threats, which makes fear incredibly valuable to anyone whose survival depends upon keeping your eyes on a screen. Call that psychology, capitalism, manipulation, propaganda, a conspiracy, or Tuesday afternoon. I really don't care what you call it. I care about what repeatedly consuming it does to your mind.
Your brain is constantly gathering information about what deserves your attention. Feed it danger all day and you have essentially hired yourself a full-time security guard who thinks everything is suspicious. Every headline becomes another receipt. Every frightening video becomes another receipt. Every prediction becomes another receipt. Eventually, your mind has a filing cabinet stuffed with evidence that the world is terrifying, unpredictable, hostile, and falling apart. Then we wonder why people are exhausted, anxious, angry, suspicious, disconnected, and walking around expecting something horrible to happen.
I refuse to participate in that cycle.
I would rather use that incredibly powerful brain of mine to create. I would rather imagine possibilities. I would rather envision the life I want, the relationships I want, the community I want, the experiences I want, and the world I want my grandchildren to inherit. You can call that manifestation, visualization, neuroscience, spirituality, intention, imagination, or whatever terminology makes you comfortable. The label doesn't matter nearly as much as understanding that what repeatedly receives your attention becomes incredibly influential in your internal world.
Years ago, I wrote a quote that I still believe wholeheartedly: “Your emotions are the fairy godmother that turns imagination into a golden carriage.” — Ocean~Spirithealer. Your imagination gives you the picture, and your emotions give that picture life. When you can imagine something beautiful and actually allow yourself to feel the excitement, gratitude, peace, love, freedom, or joy connected to that possibility, you are doing something far more powerful than sitting on your couch emotionally responding to somebody else's version of the future.
Use your imagination like a weapon, because in a world fighting relentlessly for control of your attention, it absolutely is one. Your ability to decide what deserves space in your mind is power. Your ability to envision possibilities beyond whatever frightening story is currently being repeated is power. Your ability to choose what you mentally rehearse every day is power. Nobody can build your internal world without your participation, and you have every right to become extremely selective about what gets through the damn door.
This is also why I keep talking about vibration, and people can interpret that word however they choose. To me, keeping your vibration high means intentionally spending more time in emotional states that support the life you are trying to create. Laugh. Dance around your kitchen. Make music. Sit outside. Love somebody. Call your children. Play with your animals. Create something ridiculous. Help your neighbor. Compliment a stranger. Dream about your future. Make plans. Enjoy your food. Be grateful for something ordinary. Find reasons to experience joy right where you are. Those experiences deserve your attention too.
And yes, I understand how difficult that can feel when the world appears determined to hand us another reason to panic before breakfast. I am still telling you to protect your peace like your life depends on it. Negativity is their ammunition, and there seems to be an endless supply. You do not have to stand in front of the firing squad voluntarily. Turn the television off. Put the phone down. Stop arguing with strangers underneath videos designed specifically to piss you off. Stop donating your emotional energy to people who have done absolutely nothing to earn access to it. Then take that energy somewhere useful.
Help somebody. Feed somebody. Encourage somebody. Check on your neighbor. Support your friend. Hug your children. Plant something. Build something. Teach something. Create something. Be the person you keep wishing would magically appear in everybody else. Imagine what would happen if millions of people redirected the hours they spend consuming outrage into improving the five feet surrounding them. That is a world-changing act that requires absolutely no permission from a politician, corporation, billionaire, celebrity, commentator, influencer, or news anchor.
Your brain is an extraordinary organ. It can imagine something that does not exist yet, develop a plan for creating it, recognize opportunities related to it, learn from experience, change behavior, build new associations, and continue adapting throughout your life. We walk around carrying that magnificent piece of biological machinery between our ears and then hand somebody on television the remote control. Absolutely the hell not. You are in the driver's seat. You are the architect. Start acting like it.
Build the internal world you want to live from. Imagine the beautiful house, the peaceful morning, the thriving business, the loving relationship, the healthy community, the ridiculous vacation, the garden, the laughter, the freedom, the money, the music, the friendship, the purpose, the adventure, and whatever else makes your heart light up. Let yourself feel what it would be like to experience those things. Then start making decisions that move you toward them.
Dismiss whatever continually drags you away from the life you are deliberately creating. That includes information. That includes habits. That includes environments. And yes, sometimes that includes people. Crossing into your own version of the “promised land” requires deciding what gets to travel with you. You cannot control every damn thing happening on this planet, and you were never supposed to carry all of it inside your nervous system.
Protect your imagination. Protect your attention. Protect your emotional energy. Spend them on the people you love, the things you are creating, the future you are building, and the beautiful pieces of life happening right in front of you.
Positivity is currency, and right now I believe it is more valuable than damn near anything money can buy.
Spend it wisely.
